Spring sports are gearing up on the local prep scene despite the winter storm that came through Helena.

Over at Helena High the Bengal softball team looks to bounce back from a tough year on the diamond last year when they didn't qualify for the state "AA" tournament. Head coach John Hawe is back at the helm of the Bengals and he's counting on his core of three seniors to lead the way.

Hawe said, “Coming back for us as seniors this year is Abby Thompson, she played first and third base for us last year, she's a heck of a hitter. Also, Kennar Ward in centerfield she's back again and Alex Pappas who came on to do a great job slapping and getting on base for us and holding down the right field position. We're looking for these girls to provide leadership for us.”

Coach Hawe is also excited about his pitching staff as he returns three veterans in Mackenzie Donnelly, Nicole Pocklington and Darcy Ryan. The Bengals goal this year is to win conference and then a berth at the State "AA" Tournament.
