The Carroll College Fighting Saints began spring football practice this Friday.

Saints head coach Mike Van Diest and his staff welcomed back veterans from last year's squad that went 13-2 and made it all the way to the National Championship game where they lost to St. Xavier 24-20. 2012 is a new year and that means plenty of optimism as the Saints look to add another NAIA National Title.

Van Diest said, “Well it's great to be out here, these guys have been in the gym and in the weight room for the last three months, it's been three months since we played in Rome, Georgia. This is football, spring football is great next to the season obviously in the fall this is what we look forward to as coaches.”

“On the offensive side kinda get our timing down, the offensive line is trying to get the protection right and communication is also what we're trying to work on. Yeah I'm excited, these are my best friends and I'm excited to play with them and to be the quarterback is an honor,” stated Dakota Stonehouse, Saints quarterback.

The Saints have three All-Americans back this season, running back Chance Demarais, the NAIA National Player of the Year last season.  Offensive lineman Connor Goudreau and senior safety Brian Strobel who leads the defense will also be returning.
