Workers fixing listing Heart Mountain smokestack
POWELL, Wyo. (AP) -- Workers are fixing the smokestack at the former Heart
Mountain Internment Camp.
The Powell Tribune reported Tuesday that brickwork joints will be remortared
and a concrete liner installed within the next month. The 75-foot red brick tower
will also be cleaned.
The tower is listing sharply to the east, the direction of the area's prevailing
winds. The repairs won't fix that but Heart Mountain Foundation executive
director Stevan Leger said the concrete and steel rods being installed will make
it more "seismically stable."
The work is being done by Stone Craftsmanship of Missoula, Mont.
