Recent job growth

The U.S. Labor Department says more than 200,000 jobs a month have been added across the country over the last three months.

Montana Department of Labor and Industry Economist, Aaron McNay, says Montana has also seen recent job growth in a few industries. He says natural resource based industries like mining and healthcare are two areas that have seen positions added through the recession. McNay says the public sector, particularly local government, has seen some employment losses, but the national numbers seem to bode well for the state.

"It does look promising.  I mean, it's always good news when the rest of the country is showing strong economic gains just because that, in many ways, is a good indication that Montana will continue as well," says McNay.

The state Department of Labor and Industry is slated to release the most up-to-date employment numbers next Tuesday.
