KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) -- A 20-year-old Kalispell man has been sentenced to
35 years in the Montana State Hospital for a break-in that left a Kalispell man
with stab wounds to his arm and mouth.
Dante Kirpal Kier earlier pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted deliberate
homicide. He was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Ted Lympus.
Kier was charged with breaking into a house in December 2011 and assaulting
the homeowner.
He said Thursday he was responsible for his actions and he deserved to be
punished. He apologized to his victim.
If the Department of Public Health and Human Services determines Kier can
appropriately be released prior to the completion of the 35-year sentence, a hearing
will be held to review the sentence.
