Deer Lodge man pleads guilty in wife's death
DEER LODGE, Mont. (AP) -- A 65-year-old Deer Lodge man has pleaded guilty to
deliberate homicide in his wife's fatal stabbing.
Dennis Leo Schowengerdt changed his plea Tuesday before Judge Ray Dayton with
out an agreement with prosecutors or any recommended sentence.
Tina Schowengerdt was stabbed multiple times at their house on Dec. 8. Her body
was found covered with a blanket.
Court records say Dennis Schowengerdt arrived at the Powell County sheriff's
the next morning and told officers "so arrest me, lock me up, I'm guilty, I killed her”.
But he pleaded not guilty to the charges in court later that month.
The Montana Standard repor Schowengerdt said Tuesday he knew he had left
his 66-year-old wife to die and that he wouldn't be able to handle a trial.
