WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) -- Glacier National Park's No. 2 administrative
official will take over for retiring superintendent Chas Cartwright at the end of
the year.
Kym Hall will become the northwestern Montana park's interim superintendent
when Cartwright steps down Dec. 28.
Hall said Tuesday she hopes to fill the position permanently, but that Glacier's
top spot is among the most coveted in the National Park Service.
Cartwright says park service officials plan to name a permanent replacement
by late spring 2013.
Hall has been Glacier's deputy superintendent since July 2011. Before that,
she was the superintendent of three smaller NPS sites in Arizona.
She has been with the park service for more than 25 years.
Cartwright is retiring after more than four years as Glacier's superintendent
and 40 years of government service.
