The Montana Secretary of State's office estimates a recount for the Superintendent of Public Instruction race will cost almost $115,000.
About 2,200 votes separate Democrat Denise Juneau and Republican Sandy Welch. Juneau won the election by 0.483%, in the margin of an eligible recount.
For that to happen, Welch must request it within 5 days of the state canvass and post a bond to cover all costs. Officials say Welch can use money from her party or any other source to cover the bond.
