After a lottery at the liquor warehouse in Helena today, two individuals are eligible to purchase an alcohol license in Billings and Broadwater County.

The winners of the lottery will now have the opportunity to go through the application process which includes a background check and financial audit.  Liquor Control Division Administrator, Shauna Helfert, explains why these 2 areas have new liquor licenses available.

Helfert says, “The Montana Alcoholic Beverage Code has a mechanism in the law to allow for licenses to increase or adjust based upon population growth.  There's been population increases in a couple different areas and so therefore there’s some licenses that are available.”

After a local bar recently closed its doors, a liquor license will be available in Helena.  Thursday, the names of the applicants will be released.
