Montana No Kid Hungry
Governor Brian Schweitzer and "Share Our Strength" held a press conference this afternoon to launch the "Montana No Kid Hungry" campaign.
The partnership aims to end childhood hunger in Montana by building proven strategies that increase the number of children who eat healthy meals through afterschool programs. Tom Nelson, President of Share Our Strength, says with the help of community agencies they can make sure no child goes hungry.
"This campaign is gonna be successful because together with the leadership from the governor and the Department of Public Health and Human Services. There are community agencies such as the Food Bank in Livingston or in Billings the program that puts together backpacks and runs team cafe's. Those are the kind of community agencies that are part of this campaign here in Montana," says Nelson.
According to Share Our Strength, studies show that children who face hunger can have trouble focusing and have slower memory recall.
