Havre man denies strangling girlfriend
HAVRE, Mont. (AP) -- A 25-year-old Havre man has pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in the death of his girlfriend. Jordan Carlson entered his plea Thursday in District Court. Court records say Carlson called his brother on March 23 and said he'd killed 35-year-old Dawn Beeman. His brother called police. In an interview, Carlson told officers he had a history of having problems when he is not taking his medications. Charging documents say Carlson told officers he strangled Beeman after an argument. Carlson spent time at the state hospital and in prison for arson and criminal endangerment after a fire he set on his couch in November 2009 spread to an apartment building. He was paroled last September. Carlson is being held without bond on a charge of violating his parole.
