Homicide charged filed in Whitefish stabbing
KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) -- Prosecutors have amended the charge against a Whitefish woman for stabbing her husband in the chest following the man's death. Deputy Flathead County Attorney Travis Ahner filed a charge of mitigated deliberate homicide against 39-year-old AnnMari Helt Newton on Friday, with an alternate charge of negligent homicide. Helt Newton was initially charged with felony assault with a weapon for the Nov. 25 stabbing that left 37-year-old Chad Newton hospitalized. His father took him off life support at the Kalispell hospital last weekend. Helt Newton is free on a $25,000 bond. Ahner says a District Court judge has issued a summons for her to appear for a bond modification hearing on Jan. 23.
