Graduation Matters initiative
Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau says high schools around the state will begin launching community-based strategies to reduce the dropout rate as part of her initiative Graduation Matters.
Starting Tuesday, a tool kit is available on the website GraduationMatters.mt.gov offering best practices suggestions to communities. The initiative is based on one that's been successful in Missoula. Juneau says she's spent the summer promoting the program in the state's other big cities and some of the small ones. Now it's up to those communities to create a program that fits their needs.
"We want to insure that they're community developed. That the framework is for their process comes from the ground up and basically that we want to have it labeled Graduation Matters [town],” says Juneau.
The Office of Public Instruction will also be updating Graduation Matters with a social media campaign.
