The Postal Workers Union, as well as other state labor leaders, staged a rally Thursday in front of Congressman Denny Rehberg's office.

They say the goal Thursday was two-fold. First, to ask the congressman to support a house resolution which would use pension overpayments to help the USPS meet its financial obligations and, second, to oppose another resolution they say eliminates collective bargaining and would allow management to lay-off 120 thousand employees.

"Almost daily, a new plan to reduce the workforce, our benefits, and I think the community needs to know that it's going to directly affect them to due to reduced services,” says Postal Workers Union President Janet Kosnik.

Congressman Rehberg's office responded to the rally Thursday with a statement saying, quote, ‘Denny welcomes all input from Montanans, and he shares their concerns. In fact, he's leading the charge in Montana to protect rural post offices and preserve six day postal delivery.’

Full statement for Congressman Rehberg's office

"Denny welcomes all input from Montanans, and he shares their concerns.  In fact, he's leading the charge in Montana to protect rural post offices and preserve six day postal delivery.  Washington just doesn't get it - we can't solve all of our problems on the backs of rural states like Montana.  For Denny, this is about doing the right thing for Montana and that means he'll keep fighting bad ideas no matter which party they come from." - Jed Link, spokesman
