Fire crews are mopping up a 2 acre fire that was started by lightning in the west valley.

Neighbors in the area reported the fire on Applegate Road shortly after 11:00 Tuesday morning.  DNRC used a helicopter to extinguish the flames.  Along with DNRC, the Forest Service and the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department continue to work on mopping up the area.  Crews are keeping an eye on the storm cell entering the Helena Valley to make sure winds don't pick up any embers and spread the fire.
