Man charged with 4 counts of assault with a weapon

A Helena man is behind bars after police say he struck a vehicle with a baseball bat on Wednesday, while 4 other men were inside.

18 year old Joshua Willhoft is charged with 4 counts of assault with a weapon, and 1 count of misdemeanor criminal mischief. According to court documents, Willhoft admitted to breaking the window of a yellow Dodge truck with a bat. Captain Steve Hagen of the Helena Police Department says the 4 men in the truck walked away from the incident with minor injuries.

Hagen says, "We're still looking at whether or not the other individuals may be charged with a crime like disorderly conduct or something like that. But as of right now these are the only charges that are filed and the city attorney will look at any additional charges maybe against the other parties involved."

Hagen says $500 of damage was caused to the vehicle.

Wow! I am shaking my head. Joshua is faced with a bunch of bullies with a gun showing up at his house. He tries to defend himself from an obviously a dangerous and possibly life threatening situation and the Helena police arrest the victim instead of the bullies with the gun! Does the Helena Police Department keep up with current affairs at all? You've got to wonder what the hell they were thinking (if they were thinking at all).

Just to set the record straight,the boys in the truck drove over to Joshua's house with the intent to assault Joshua. This was premeditated. One of the boys in the incident had a gun in his waistband and threatened to kill Joshua and others. When the boy heard that the police were on their way, he took off with another kid. The police were told that one of the boys had a gun and took off, but since the police cannot find the gun, this boy has not been arrested. The police stated they searched the truck and when they later caught up with the other boy he did not have the gun. This whole thing took place outside Joshua's house and it was self defense. Four boys drove to our house to assault one person. The public should be outraged in the Helena Police Department for releasing the other boys, especially the one kid with the gun. In wake of all the gun violence, I would think the police would take this more seriously.
