Firefighters battle house fire in South Hills
Helena Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the south hills earlier this evening.
Fire officials say they responded after neighbors called in a report claiming they saw flames and a plume of smoke coming from a nearby home on Comstock Road.
HFD’s Kevin Kelly says access to the home was difficult due to the narrow single track road leading up to the house. No one was in the home at the time of the fire and firefighters worked quickly to put the fire out.
Kelly says, "Most of the damage occurred on the outside of the building. It looks like it traveled inside the wall, right now we're gonna tear the wall out to check for extension. There is some smoke damage inside, quite a bit of smoke inside the building."
Kelly says after preliminary investigation the possible cause of the fire was a food smoker that ignited the deck on fire.
