This month, the community is recognizing Lewis and Clark County's walkability and bikeability.

October is Bike Walk to School month in the county.  The bike walk to school challenge program is designed to promote active transportation to schools throughout the county.

Lewis and Clark County Grants Coordinator Laura Erikson, says the month is a way to lower childhood obesity rates and increase children's physical fitness.

Erikson says, "Academic studies have shown that kids are doing better in school, they are performing better if they are more physically active.  When they start off their day with a little bit of exercise, they get to school and they're not as stressed out and they've actually released some of that energy and they're more capable of learning."
