Surveillance video captures two men beating homeless man
Surveillance video shows two men kicking and punching a homeless man outside a downtown bar early Sunday morning.
Helena Police are working to identify two young men after what they call a random act of violence over the weekend. Helena Police found a 40-year-old homeless man badly beaten in an alley behind the Gold Bar around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Helena Police Detective Sergeant Richard Drysdale states,” The video shows two white males surrounding the victim as he was entering the walkway yelling at him and then knocking him down to the ground where they beat and kicked him until he was unconscious.”
Sgt. Drysdale says the homeless man suffered multiple fractures to his skull, but has been released from the hospital. The suspects are two white males between five feet eight and eleven inches tall weighing 135 to 145 pounds with blonde or brown hair. Drysdale says they fled toward Lawrence Street and appear to not have been wearing shoes.
Sgt.Drysdale says, “It appears that they targeted this male. He is intoxicated, he is a transient, he has no home, he lives on the street. At the time he was being surrounded by these guys he had a bag in each hand, he was basically defenseless.”
Once the suspects are detained Drysdale says they will face charges, possibly felony.
Sgt. Drysdale says, “It's clear to me that this is just a crime of violence, a random act of violence toward the homeless and it's senseless. We don't need to have this kind of incident take place in Helena.”
Helena Police say this is the second incident like this in the last few weeks. Anyone with information should call the Helena Police Department, or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 443-2000.
