Concert for a Cause helps local organization
With Concert for a Cause only a week away, local organizations are hoping the community will reach out and support some great causes.
Beartooth NBC's Zack Smith talked with the CEO of Farm in the Dell International to learn more about the organization. Farm in the Dell International was founded in Helena in the 1980's and spread throughout the world providing housing and employment for disabled individuals.
Lowell Bartels, Farm in the Dell International CEO, says, "The idea is that we have a number of people in the United States and the world who need homes who are developmentally disabled who do not have homes and the Farm in the Dell is an answer to that."
Bartels says it is a place where the disabled can do work including raising animals and produce, while living in a secure environment. Bartels says they plan to continue building farms and hopes the annual Concert for a Cause will help provide the funds to do so.
"What we do with this is money is we use this money to start farms for developmentally disabled. There is no organization right that we know of in the United States that is building group homes for developmentally disabled," says Bartels.
He says organizations like Farm in the Dell are not possible without the support of the community. Bartels says he encourages people to come out to the event.
Bartels states, "Concert for a Cause will not only help Farm in the Dell, but Helena Food Share as well. It helps those in need. That's what it is really about."
Other locations for Farm in the Dell include Kalispell, Great Falls, and Saskatchewan, Canada. Bartels says they are currently looking at starting farms in Minneapolis, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
Concert for a Cause is next Friday, July 6 at the historic Broadwater Park. Tickets for the event are available at Van's Thriftway, Mountain West Bank and Bert and Ernie’s. Tickets are $25 in advance, and $30 at the gate.
