Committee continues public hearings on redistricting maps
The Districting and Apportionment Committee is holding a public hearing tonight at the State Capitol to hear feedback on proposed legislative re-districting maps. The committee has traveled across the State of Montana to hear what residents have to say.
Jon Bennion, A Commissioner on the Districting Committee, says there's been a large amount of attention to the project. He says they've seen a consistent theme in public comment, and there has also been specific remarks towards each potential district change. Bennion says moving forward they hope to start figuring out how each district will be zoned.
"By august we really need to start figuring out where lines are gonna go,” says Bennion “and we'll have a meeting in August potentially in September if we need a second meeting and we'll really just start having to dig down and find out where those lines are gonna go."
He says they have nine more hearings to conduct that will lead into a public comment period during the summer.
