Helena Regional Airport under construction
The Helena Regional Airport and the Transportation Security Administration are continuing work on two new construction projects this month.
The projects include a second passenger screening lane and a full body scanner. Helena Regional Airport Assistant Director, Jeff Wadekamper says they've been working on the second screening lane to help regulate airport traffic.
Wadekamper says the TSA is also installing a full body scanner mandated by the national organization. He says the advanced imaging technology, which is being required for all commercial airports across the country, will help process passengers more efficiently.
"Well you know it's hopeful that it’ll make processing passengers a lot quicker. I think that combined with the second passenger screening check point lane that we're adding that's really gonna help especially during peak times to get additional passengers through," says Wadekamper.
Wadekamper says the new body scanner won't be operational until all construction at the airport is complete. He says the second screening lane should be finished by June in time for the summer travel season.
