RMDC partners with Helena Food Share to provide food for seniors
The Rocky Mountain Development Council is partnering with the Helena Food Share to provide free commodity foods for senior citizens on limited incomes.
Today at the United Methodist Church in East Helena dozens of seniors, 60 years and up, arrived to receive food packages including various home items.
RMDC Senior Nutrition Program Coordinator, Shawna Donaldson says every other month they provide food for up to 700 households throughout the state. She says each person is given enough food to last for two months.
"It is a great way to get food to seniors and be able to give them extra money in their budget that they might normally spend on food to be able to use for other items they may need," stated Donaldson.
Donaldson says the federal program is nationwide and throughout the week they will be visiting other cities in Montana. The program will be in Augusta and Wolf Creek Tuesday, March 27, followed by Lincoln on Wednesday, March 28.
