No Wake zones

The Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission is considering a new rule that would establish a 'no-wake zone' at all commercial marinas in Montana.

Ron Jendro told us, "People that have their boats moored in these marinas and they don't want their clients' boats to get damaged. When you've got a boat coming in at a high rate of speed it creates waves and then those boats get banged up against each other or against the marina."

Fish, Wildlife and Parks boating law coordinator Ron Jendro says more than half of the marinas across the state already have self-imposed no-wake zone rules. The Commission is seeking public comment on the proposed rule. Comments are due by March 9th and can be submitted online or by mail. The Commission will issue a final decision on April 26th.

Public comments can be submitted through email to Ron Jendro at rjendro@mt.gov, by mail to Ron Jendro, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701, or via the Fish, Wildlife and Parks website.
