Governor Brian Schweitzer announced today that Montana is considering developing its own employee medical clinic to raise the quality of care for state employees.

To begin the process the state issued a request for proposals along with specific goals for the health center. At the top of that list are improved health outcomes, improved health care management and increased access to primary care. Governor Schweitzer says state employees are already covered by a healthcare system, but having the state replace that coverage will help improve cost and care.

"These are already people that are covered in a government provided health care system, and these will be the same people that will be provided with a government healthcare system.  It's just that we believe we can decrease the cost for the state of Montana and improve the care for the employee,"says Schweitzer.

The Governor says this plan would save the state money by cutting out health insurance administration and other costs.
