A fire caused extensive damage at a historic home on the corner of Rodney Street and Seventh Avenue this morning.

HelenaFire Marshal Craig Trapp says a passerby called 911 when they saw smoke coming from the Francis and Hannah Pope House.
He says one person was inside at the time of the fire but was able to get out without injury.
Trapp says older knob and tube electric wiring was the only fuel source found in the attic.
He says the house sustained over 70 thousand dollars in smoke, heat and water damage.
Trapp said "The initial brunt of the fire was knocked down very quickly but for these types of fires we need to remain on scene and put out hot spots and make sure that the fire doesn't reignite."
According to Trapp the homeowner - who is currently on vacation - has already contacted their insurance company and a cleaning crew.
