Recycled glass

There may not be any snow on the ground but the Montana Department of Transportation has an interesting mix ready to go to help with road maintenance when it's needed.

City Manager Ron Alles says the mixture is a combination of sand with ground up, recycled glass. Alles says the glass isn't harmful and is safe by DEQ and EPA standards.

"We make this crushed glass and it’s from the recycling operation we have when we collect bottles and we mix that into our traction sand and so when you see where we've sanded the city streets you'll see little specs of glass in it. We're re-using that," says Alles.

Alles says warmer weather plays a positive impact on the city budget as well. He says any savings on snow maintenance during the winter will provide extra funding for spring road projects.
