The Helena City Commission unanimously approved an amended draft of the Distracted Driving Ordinance.

In 30 days, it will be illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone or use an electronic mobile device unless you use a genuinely hands-free device such as voice activation or a speaker phone connection that is activated before you start driving.

The commission also approved a first passage of an ordinance amending the official zoning map for the Caird property near “Malfunction Junction.” This changes it from commercial use only to a mixed property use including residential and educational use.  The decision met heavy opposition from people attending the meeting especially with concerns regarding the rocky mountain development council's interest in the property.

Finally, the commission approved a resolution granting a conditional use permit to allow a combination casino/convenience store/gas station near the Custer Interchange in front of Lowe's.
