Man charged with trying to hit police car
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) -- A 25-year-old Great Falls man faces several charges
after police say he tried to back his pickup truck over a patrol car.
KFBB-TV reports James Verhoeven made an initial court
appearance Monday on charges including felony assault on a peace officer and
misdemeanor driving under the influence.
Court records say police tried to stop a pickup truck that drove off after
apparently being high-centered on snow in the middle of the street on Saturday.
The pickup pulled into a parking lot and the officers pulled in behind it. Prosecutors
allege Verhoeven tried to back his truck into the patrol car at a high rate
of speed.
Officers moved the car out of the way and blocked Verhoeven's vehicle from le
leaving. He then attempted to run away and was arrested.
