11,000 acres of Flathead National Forest were intentionally burned west of Augusta at the South Fork of the Sun River this weekend.

Helicopters with drip torches were used to ignite the prescribed burn early Saturday afternoon.

This is the third and final phase of the Sun River burn. Phases one and two were completed in 2003 and 2009. Parts of the fire may continue to smolder for several days.

Smoke may be visible at times along the Rocky Mountain Front.
