Fire officials suspect a spark caused by a passing vehicle caused a brush fire on York Road earlier Thursday evening.

East Valley Fire Chief David Sammons says the fire burned about a quarter mile of brush on the ditch line and spread onto at least one piece of property. He says there were multiple start areas. Chief Sammons says the crews from East Helena, East Helena and Tri-Lakes were a crucial part of getting the fire under control and protecting structures in the area.

“All of these people out here are volunteers. So we wouldn't, we don't have paid service this far out so thank god for them. We've got a pretty good crew out here right now and a quite a bit of apparatus for a grass fire along the roadway,” says Chief Sammons.

The Lewis and Clark Sheriff's Department also responded. No one was injured
