The jet stream will lift north away from Montana over the next few days, allowing warmer air to move back into the state. However, the jet will drop south late this week with a cold front and some refreshing Canadian air.

A west-northwest flow will keep the extreme heat well to the south, but this direction will transport more smoke from fires in British Columbia over Big Sky Country.

Warmer on Wednesday with highs reaching the upper 80's to around 90. Skies will be mostly sunny but hazy at times, and west winds will gust up to 25mph.

Overnight, clear, lows in the 50's.

Thursday, a strong cold front will move into the state. There will be a mix of clouds and sun, highs will be around 90. It will be blustery with an isolated thunderstorm over the mountains.

Friday, the difference in the airmass will be noticeable. Highs will be in the 70's to near 80 and the sky will be clear.

Over the weekend, temperatures will warm through the 80's Saturday into the 90's on Sunday with isolated thunderstorms returning.
