            How’s The Weather Lori???

Lori Getter
Former Anchor Lori Getter has some Great memories to share.

Happy Birthday KTVH!!!!

I started at KTVH-TV in December of 1988 as the main anchor for the 5:30 and 10:00 news.  I was very fortunate to be able to participate in many unique and exciting events.  In 1989 it was the State’s Centennial Celebration.  KTVH did special broadcast that evening and then we participated in the event at the state capitol.   It was very special to be part of such an historic event.  I will also remember the Carroll College Train Derailment that also occurred that year.  It was bitter cold and snowing that February morning.  All of the news team worked from early in the morning shortly after the explosion occurred until late that evening.  It was so cold that all our vehicles kept dying even though we had the block heaters plugged in so we had to leave the cars running most of the time.  I spent most of that day at the site of the explosion. We were very fortunate no one was killed.

In addition to anchoring the news, I also anchored the weather.  I will probably be best remembered for the phrase “How’s the weather Lori?”

To start off the weather segment, a videotape would roll with someone saying “how’s the weather Lori?”  Our cameraman would get someone in the community to ask me that question. They even had my parents do that and once even the Governor!   I never knew who would be asking that famous question until the videotape would pop up during the newscast.    Everywhere I went – to the store, restaurant, church, etc. people would come up to me and ask “how’s the weather”.  I never minded because at least I knew they were watching KTVH News!

I was also probably best known for giving Sports Director Al Marks a bad time.  Al started at KTVH when I was the main anchor.  We would banter each other every night during the newscasts.  He would give me a bad time about growing up in Montana and attending the U of M and being a Grizzly!    I would give him a bad time about everything else!  People would come up to us and cheer us on and say they enjoyed our little jabs at each other on the evening news!   It was all in good fun!

In looking back at my career at KTVH – I am probably most proud about starting the Pet of the Week segment with the Lewis & Clark Humane Society. I love animals and I was so happy we began doing Pet of the Week and helping unwanted animals get loving homes in the Helena valley.   In fact, in 1996 I adopted my sweet dog “Bailey” from the Helena shelter.

I left KTVH in the fall of 1992.  I worked for the State of Montana and in 1997 I moved to Madison, Wisconsin to work for Wisconsin Emergency Management. It is a state agency that responds to various disasters and emergencies. I am the Crisis Communications Manager and work with the media.  Since 1997, I have assisted with 14 presidential disaster declaration and many other emergencies.  So if a major tornado or flooding occurs in Wisconsin – you may hear my voice or see my name in the news.

Here are a couple of recent pics.   Last year – I spent a week in Nicaragua working with their Civil Defense Public Affairs.  It was a memorable experience.  The other picture is at Christmas with my dog Bailey!

I still stay in touch with former KTVH News Member Melissa Anderson.
