A Special Note to MONTANA DIRECT TV Subscribers

According to Direct TV, most of their customers won’t need to take any action for the transition to digital television.

Unfortunately, “most” does not include MONTANA CUSTOMERS.

Direct TV does not deliver Montana’s local television channels via satellite.  Montana customers who subscribe to Direct TV’s Local Channel Service are actually getting their local channels over-the-air through an antenna.

To the best of our knowledge, Direct TV has three set top boxes that feature a digital tuner for OVER-THE-AIR Television stations and a tuner for Satellite Stations.  They are:

  • DIRECTV® HD (H20)
  • DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR (HR20 only)
  • DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR (HR21)

If you are a Direct TV Subscriber who pays for Local Channel Service, you will need a converter box if your Direct TV receiver is not one of the models listed above.  (There may be other models with these features that we are not aware of.)   If you have questions regarding your Direct TV receiver, their Customer Service number is 1-800-494-4388.

If you have Direct TV service, receive local channels through a regular antenna, but have a television with a digital tuner, you should continue to be able to watch television after the digital transition.

If you have Direct TV service, receive local channels through a regular antenna, but have an analog television set without a digital tuner, you will need to obtain a digital converter box solely for the purpose of watching local television stations. In this case, you will have 2 set top boxes, your Direct TV box for viewing non-local channels, and the other “over-the-air” digital converter box for viewing local channels.

VERY IMPORTANT

The National deadline by which all stations must make the transition is February 17, 2009.

KTVH will make the transition earlier…on November 10, 2008 at Noon.

If you are a Direct TV Subscriber with Local Channel Service, and you do not have a receiver that will deliver both digital and analog signals, you will need a Converter Box.  In order to continue to receive the KTVH signal, those who need converted boxes must have them installed by Noon on November 10, 2008.

For more information on converter boxes, and to order $40 off coupons, click here.

Due to the high demand for coupons, it takes a few weeks to get them so be sure to order yours right away.
