Science OlympiadAfter an exciting win at the Science Olympiad State Championship, Clancy Middle School is already preparing for national competition in Florida. Beartooth NBC caught up with the champs to find out just how they did it, in this week's Class Act.

For twenty two years, Clancy Middle has been trying to win the Science Olympiad state competition. They were finally able to cross that off their to-do list this year.

"There were 14 events this year and we started out kind of slow. I told my students in order to win we're gonna have to place in the top ten in almost every event and there were 44 schools throughout the whole state," Says Teacher/Coach, Ted Polette

Of course we already know they won but how did they do it?

"Rocks and minerals was interesting they had many different stations and we had to identify, classify all the different kinds of rocks and minerals," says Rocks and Minerals 2nd place winners, Kate Murphy & Karina Carlson.

"There's like three different stations, yea the first one is watershed management issues, ecology water cycle. The second one is identifying bugs and the third one is testing the water and mostly at state it focused on solidity amount of salt in the water," says Water Quality State Champs, Caitlyn Chilinski & Kahsiah Benson.

Don't think they're resting on their win though. Preparation for nationals is already underway and everyone has plans to improve.

"Study a little bit better with our notes have better graphs and have a little bit better insulation," says Keep the Heat 6th place winner, Cody Bruski.

"Build a new one. We're gonna build a new one and if we can't build one that's better than this one then we're just gonna use this one," says Mousetrap Vehicle State Champs, Paidyn Bulkley & Dominic Bair.

Putting together a team, check winning state, check preparing for nationals, almost there, applying topics they learned in class and becoming state champs makes Clancy a Middle School Class Act.

The team has already raised $10,000 for the trip in May however they still need to raise a total of $25,000 to take 18 kids and two chaperones to compete.
