"Kindness Makes Miracles" coming to a close
A tree stands alone in front of St. Mary's church in Helena... a constant reminder to one Helena parent of just how far reaching the impact of bullying can be.
The Knights of Columbus planted a tree in memory of Kelly O'Loughlin. Her father Carl says the bullying Kelly endured at Helena High School pushed her away from her school and friends and ultimately into the car that led to her death. O'Loughlin says, "She went out for varsity cheerleading and didn't make it. That was about the last straw for her. They told us her and her friend were going to sleep in the backyard that night. Next thing we know we're getting a phone call."
Carl O'Loughlin and the Knights of Columbus are trying to put a stop to bullying through the "Kindness Makes Miracles" program. They're asking 6th, 7th and 8th graders to create any expression of kindness and anti-bullying. But there are only a few more days left to submit entries. The program runs through February 1st. 10 participants will win an ipod in a random drawing on February 10th at 7pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
