 News Reporter

Typical Duties:  

Make contacts and gather information about news issues and events in Montana and the West from which reports are written and edited;

Understand and implement the philosophy of the news director;

Field produce and edit stories for newscast anchors;

Use good news judgment on coverage and presentation of day’s news events;

Work closely with other news department personnel to make sure Beartooth NBC completely, accurately, and fairly covers news events;

Shoot and edit video;

Appear on-air to report stories as assigned and fill-in anchor as needed.

Update Station Website/Maintain Social Media Pages

Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned.

Requirements:                   

Some experience as a television reporter, produce, or anchor;

Familiarity with ENG and SNG;

Ability to meet daily deadlines, and work cooperatively with other staff members;

Detail oriented and professional in demeanor and appearance;

Experience editing news copy and videotape;

Newsroom computer experience helpful;

College degree;

Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Typing skills and good phone etiquette;

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of television equipment;

                       Chief Meteorologist / Reporter

Typical Duties:

Present daily weathercasts for designated newscasts

Gather information and report about news and meteorological happenings;

Present weather information in a format that is understandable and meaningful to viewers;

Make contacts and suggest story ideas daily;

Live remotes (microwave and satellite);

Anchor live field report ;

Make public appearances as the station may require;

Participate in daily news editorial meetings;

Operate newsroom computer and answer newsroom telephones;

Implement news research at the direction of the news director;

Produce newscasts when needed;

Give station tours; and

Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned.

Requirements:               Previous experience as a news reporter and anchor, preferable

Ability to make extensive news contacts in Montana;

Good telephone etiquette;

Ability to carry fifty pounds of television equipment;

Must deal with pressure situations, demonstrate good news judgment, and maintain a good attitude;

Ability to edit videotape;

On Call when needed;

Possess a valid driver’s license with no DUI convictions;

College degree in Meteorology and/or A.M.S. seal preferred; and

                                               News Director

Typical Duties:  

Manage news personnel to create a good mix of solid journalists;

Establish news as the most reputable and responsive to community problems needs and interests;

Train and develop staff in contemporary news gathering procedures; Insure TV news coverage of appropriate events, activities and breaking stories;

Anchor Newscasts when necessary

Assign, manage and coordinate new story assignments;

Design a budget for each calendar year, projecting what expenses will be incurred and maintaining the perimeters of that budget (except in unusual circumstances);

Suggest capital expenditures for the news department on an annual basis;Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of capital equipment/news vehicles;

Assure a good flow of new ideas and concepts, keeping the station on the forefront of new developments in broadcasting;

Develop a good working relationship with other department heads and the general manager;

Accessible to the news staff; and

Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned.

Able to lead news staff through HD conversion and implement New

Technology

Requirements:    

Previous experience in all aspects of TV News, including management (minimum 4 years); Reporting/Anchoring

Must be self-motivated with a competitive flare and have a desire to teach; Ability to work under pressures of deadlines;

Able to supervise and maintain positive morale and productivity;

Good organizational and people skills.
